Coates is an interdisciplinary writer and artist living in the swamps of western mass. They currently teach undergraduate and graduate art and writing at Umass Amherst. Focused on trans and disability narratives in relationship to capitalism and escapism, they work in between mediums and genres and hold an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in metals and an MFA in fiction from Umass Amherst. Their work has been published, exhibited, or is forthcoming in Tendon Magazine, The New River, 3 am Magazine, the Iowa Review, Hawai'i Review, Quarter Press, Moonstone Press, CICA, Marzee Gallery, 555 Gallery, among others.
